Do you wish you had a beautiful, full smile, but feel as though the gaps from your missing teeth are holding your smile hostage? Whether dental implantsyou have one or many gaps or are missing all your teeth completely, you can benefit from dental implants. This revolutionary dental technology replaces your missing teeth long term, without requiring you to add extra steps to your dental routine. Find out more about dental implants and how they can improve your smile with Unique Dental Care in North Attleboro, MA.

How can dental implants help me?
Dental implants are a permanent, effective solution to missing teeth. Implants lie within the jawbone of the mouth, underneath the gum tissue which lines the socket of the missing tooth. Implants replace a missing tooth’s root along with the tooth itself, providing a comprehensive tooth replacement option which helps patients avoid the side effects of missing teeth, such as bone atrophy while filling in the gaps in their smile.

What kind of dental implant do I need?
Dental implants can replace one, many, or all your teeth. A single dental implant stands alone in the mouth, unlike a dental bridge, which relies on the surrounding natural teeth to anchor it into place. Multiple tooth replacement gives the patient the opportunity to replace several teeth in a row, using one implant on either side of the bridge and the same self-standing method as single tooth replacement. Patients missing all the teeth on a row can use an implant-supported denture to replace an entire arch of teeth using only four to six implants spaced throughout the arch.

Dental Implant Treatment in North Attleboro, MA
This important procedure takes several dental appointments. This, however, is a small price to pay for a lifetime of use. The chances of dental implants rejecting or failing are low and usually tied to lack of proper care. Luckily, caring for your implants is as easy as caring for your natural teeth. Brush twice daily and floss at least once to ensure proper dental hygiene between your regular dental examinations and cleanings every six months.

You are Missing Teeth

Regardless of whether you are missing just one, several or all of your teeth, dental implants can help. While a single implant is all that’s needed to replace one missing tooth, several implants can also be placed throughout the jawbone to support partial or even full dentures.

Your health is a major factor when it comes to determining whether you are right for dental implants. This is why our North Attleboro, MA, general dentist will need you to come in for a consultation. Adjusting to the change in your smile after you lose a tooth can be difficult. Every time you brush, you're reminded that a tooth once dental implantsoccupied that empty space. Unfortunately, tooth loss isn't just a cosmetic issue. Your North Attleboro, MA dentists at Unique Dental Care share information about the consequences of tooth loss and explain how dental implants can restore your smile.

What happens when you lose a tooth?

The roots of your teeth help keep your jawbone strong by exerting constant pressure on it. After you lose a tooth, the underlying section of bone no longer receives the pressure it needs. Although you probably won't notice any changes immediately after your tooth is extracted, your jawbone will eventually begin to become weaker and shallower. The problem can become more severe if several teeth are extracted. Changes in the jawbone can lead to sagging of the lower portion of your face and even additional tooth loss.

Dental implants prevent changes due to tooth loss

Dental implants look like small screws. They're placed in the same spot once occupied by your roots during a minor oral surgical procedure. Implants are made of titanium, a lightweight, durable metal capable of bonding to bones. Once the implants are placed in your mouth, they begin to bond to your jawbone. The implants are as strong as the roots you lost when the bonding process is complete. Since your implants exert pressure on your jawbone just as your roots did, the bone will remain strong, and you won't be affected by the changes that can occur after tooth loss.

Implants improve your ability to chew and speak

Depending on the location of the tooth you've lost, biting and chewing can become much more difficult. Once your dentist adds crowns to the tops of your dental implants, you'll regain the ability to bite and chew normally.

Replacing a missing tooth can also improve your speech. When teeth are missing, it can be much harder to speak clearly and pronounce words properly.

Dental implants provide a long-term solution to tooth loss. Call your North Attleboro, MA, dentists at (508) 399-8800 to find out if dental implants are the ideal solution for you.

Everyone has to face the music at some time — even John Lydon, former lead singer of The Sex Pistols, arguably England’s best known punk rock band. The 59-year old musician was once better known by his stage name, Johnny Rotten — a brash reference to the visibly degraded state of his teeth. But in the decades since his band broke up, Lydon’s lifelong deficiency in dental hygiene had begun to cause him serious problems.

In recent years, Lydon has had several dental surgeries — including one to resolve two serious abscesses in his mouth, which left him with stitches in his gums and a temporary speech impediment. Photos show that he also had missing teeth, which, sources say, he opted to replace with dental implants.

For Lydon (and many others in the same situation) that’s likely to be an excellent choice. Dental implants are the gold standard for tooth replacement today, for some very good reasons. The most natural-looking of all tooth replacements, implants also have a higher success rate than any other method: over 95 percent. They can be used to replace one tooth, several teeth, or an entire arch (top or bottom row) of teeth. And with only routine care, they can last for the rest of your life.

Like natural teeth, dental implants get support from the bone in your jaw. The implant itself — a screw-like titanium post — is inserted into the jaw in a minor surgical operation. The lifelike, visible part of the tooth — the crown — is attached to the implant by a sturdy connector called an abutment. In time, the titanium metal of the implant actually becomes fused with the living bone tissue. This not only provides a solid anchorage for the prosthetic, but it also prevents bone loss at the site of the missing tooth — which is something neither bridgework nor dentures can do.

It’s true that implants may have a higher initial cost than other tooth replacement methods; in the long run, however, they may prove more economical. Over time, the cost of repeated dental treatments and periodic replacement of shorter-lived tooth restorations (not to mention lost time and discomfort) can easily exceed the expense of implants.

That’s a lesson John Lydon has learned. “A lot of ill health came from neglecting my teeth,” he told a newspaper reporter. “I felt sick all the time, and I decided to do something about it… I’ve had all kinds of abscesses, jaw surgery. It costs money and is very painful. So Johnny says: ‘Get your brush!’”

We couldn’t agree more. But if brushing isn’t enough, it may be time to consider dental implants. When teeth become damaged beyond repair, it’s a difficult experience to accept. Losing teeth is extremely stressful and leaves most dental implantspeople wondering if they’ll ever look the same again. Fortunately, there is hope! Patients today have many options to replace missing teeth, and dental implants should be at the top of your list.

Dental implants are small titanium posts that are surgically placed into the jawbone. Their purpose is to replace missing tooth roots, helping to keep the bone healthy and strong. They are then covered with crowns or dentures to complete your cosmetic restoration.

Top Benefits of Dental Implants

Preserve healthy bone: Missing teeth pose a big risk to your dental health. When the jawbone no longer receives the mechanical stimulation of chewing, it begins to break down. This bone loss eventually results in a sunken appearance, collapsed jaw structure, and premature wrinkles around the mouth and lips.

Dental implants are the best way to prevent these risks and maintain the appearance of your face and smile. Once placed, they permanently fuse with the bone and continue to stimulate bone production and maintenance for the rest of your life.

Prevent shifting of teeth: When you have gaps between your natural teeth, the surrounding teeth will shift into the open space over time. This can lead to an increased risk of decay, jaw pain, and premature tooth wear, along with your teeth becoming visibly crooked.

Getting dental implants as soon as possible after losing teeth will help ensure that all your teeth remain in proper alignment.

Restore your smile permanently: Dental implants have a proven track record of durability and longevity. With healthy dental hygiene habits, most people can expect them to last a lifetime. Once you’ve completed your dental implant surgery, the chances are slim that you’ll ever need to do so again.

Keep in mind that the cosmetic restorations covering your implants, such as crowns or dentures, will require periodic maintenance during your regular office visits.
